During a joint press conference with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Kosovo’s PM, Albin Kurti stated that the only road for Kosovo, is the one leading to the European Union.
Kurti referred to the latest tensions in northern Kosovo, that were exacerbated due to the reciprocity dispute, saying that contrary to Serbia that is “getting funding and donations from the EU, while gearing up its army through Russia’s support, Kosovo is solely focusing on collaborating with western powers”.
“We didn’t make any new decisions, but only acted upon an old bilateral accord. Serbia responded with military maneuvers. I have asked that the attacks on Zubin Potok be condemned, after the Serbian threats. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a situation, when Serbia gets EU funding, yet instead of democratizing it gets militarized by Russia and China,” – said Kurti.
On her part, the EC president expressed her concern regarding the tensions in northern Kosovo, while saying that it is of utmost importance for Kosovo, to keep walking on its European path, by starting to normalize its relations with Serbia through the dialogue process and more agreements.
“It is of great importance that we continue on our European path. To achieve a normalization of rapports with Serbia. I am concerned about the crisis in the north; the situation needs to de-escalate by returning to the dialogue that is mediated by the EU, as it is the only platform able to resolve this situation,” – said Von der Leyen.
