The floor leader of Kosovo’s Levizja Vetevendosje, Mimoza Kusari-Lila said that the declaration of the Russian Foreign Minister endorsing Open Balkan shows that the initiative was conceived in Serbia.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, Kusari-Lila said Serbia is trying to use the initiative to expand Russian and Chinese influence in the region.

“We already knew that the initiative was conceived in Serbia. It is a mechanism which Serbia, as one of the countries with the largest population size in the Western Balkans, would use to enhance Russian and Chinese influence”, she said.

“His [Lavrov] statement should be posed as a question to the other regional leaders, except for Vucic who invited him to Belgrade”.

According to Kusari-Lila, Kosovo cannot be a part of a regional initiative that is not treated as an equal, hinting here at Serbia.

She reiterated that Kosovo remains focused and committed to the Balkan Process which aims for equality among the six Western Balkan countries.

A two-day summit starting on Tuesday is set to take place in the lake city of Ohrid in North Macedonia.

For the first time, a Montenegrin Prime Minister will attend the event.
