The Minister of Education, Evis Kushi, said that the government has decided that teachers’ salaries will increase by 15 percent, of which 7 percent will be covered by the state budget.
“The rest will be covered by the universities themselves depending on their income. So, the minimum increase limit is 7 percent and the maximum is 15 percent. Universities with the autonomy they enjoy can propose increases above the minimum limit, which they can cover with their revenues. For scientific research, our support will continue and we are discussing the 2023 budget. The support will be even greater. We have to understand that teachers do not only get their income from the basic salary, but also have many other options. So, also from EU scientific research programs”, said Kushi.
As they had warned, today the lecturers held a protest in Tirana, where they demanded the fulfillment of several conditions in the university system.
Lecturer Aleksander Petre in a statement to the press during the protest made a call to the prime minister saying that they waited 20 days, they will wait another 13 days and on October 17 they will not enter the auditoriums to start the new school year.
Meanwhile, the head of the Teachers’ Union, Aleksander Kovaçi, has called on Rama to meet their demand for a 50% salary increase within two years.
