Suela Lala, a differently-abled young woman, invited Euronews Albania to live one day in her shoes and see what it is like to move around Tirana in a wheelchair.

“I can’t get into the sidewalk here, as you see can see the curb is pretty high. So I have to actually pass through the street”, explains Lala to us, while a family relative helps to push the wheelchair.

Lala is well-known to the public as she has always made her voice heard when it comes to demanding equal rights for people with disabilities. One of her main complaints is that sidewalks are very narrow and often have a step which makes it very difficult for wheelchair riders.

As a result, she is obliged to stroll through street lanes, but stressed that it is very dangerous.

In the capital’s periphery, the situation is even more problematic rendering it impossible for people that use a wheelchair to go outside without being accompanied.
