Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov is expected to visit Belgrade on June 8.

Serbian news agencies reported that amongst the main topics to be discussed during this meeting with president Alexander Vucic will be the War in Ukraine and Serbia’s stance on the ongoing crisis, all the way to current regional concerns.

This will be the first visit from a high-ranking Russian officials to Serbia since war broke out in Ukraine and it is coming at a time when the European Union is preparing yet another harsh package of sanctions against Russia.

Serbia is the only country in all of Europe that has yet to impose any sanctions on Russia.

Serbian newspaper Novosti wrote that Lavrov’s visit will be a chance to further clarify Moscow’s stance on Kosovo whilst keeping in mind Putin’s recent statements as well as other high Russian officials who have compared the separatist Donbas region in Ukraine to Kosovo.

Another topic of discussion will be Bosnia and Herzegovina and the pressure against Republika Srpska in regards to the sanctions imposed by Sarajevo on Russia since the start of the war in Ukraine.
