The establishment of democracy isn’t enough if we don’ protect it and revive it. This was the message extended by ambassador Yuri Kim, for the 245th-anniversary of American Independence, and the 30th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with Albania.
“We should face our shortcomings in the same spirit – without embarrassment or fear, but with determination to find common ground, better ways to work with our fellow citizens and chart a way forward, mindful of the lessons of the past, but always with our eyes on the future,” said the ambasador during her speech.
In order to illustrate how this can be achieved, ambassador Kim quoted parts from the American Declaration of Independence.
“Whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness,” said the Chief Diplomat.
The messages were presented by the US ambassador before the heads of state and politics, like president Ilir Meta, the Chief Parliamentary Gramoz Ruçi, the leader of the opposition, Lulzim Basha. Meanwhile, PM Edi Rama wasn’t present during this event, because of his prior engagements at the Prespa Forum, in Ohrid, North Macedonia.
