‘The license plates don’t represent our wishes, but rather they’re imposed onto us by the other side’ – these were the remarks made up Kosovo’s PM, Albin Kurti during today’s plenary session.

“As a prime minister of this country, I can assure you that the actions we took today, in compliance to the free movement agreement, aren’t forced upon Serbian citizens, nor do they limit their free movement in any way possible. And, I expect all citizens to understand this correctly; what we did today, wasn’t unlawful but rather, it was an act that marked the beginning of the implementation of an agreement approved by both Serbia and the EU,” – declared Kurti.

“Therefore, I ask all Serbian citizens to continue on your daily routines without fear that your rights are being breached. You are equal citizens,” – said Kurti.

September 15th 2021, was the last deadline when the agreement signed in Brussels regarding vehicle registration plates was to be finalized.

According to the decision approved by Xhelal Svecla, all vehicles entering Kosovo from Serbia, that carry Serbian license plates, will have to get a hold of a temporary set, which will cost them 5 euros and will serve them for the entire duration of their stay in the country.

The license plates will have to be placed in a location that is clearly visible.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs deployed special forces across all border crossing points.
