Democratic Party chair, Lulzim Basha is holding a town hall meeting in Fier this Sunday afternoon, which is part of a series of meetings with party constituents that followed the January 8 protest.
Meanwhile, former PM Sali Berisha is currently holding a parallel meeting in Shkoder, which is also meant to celebrate the 31st-anniversary of the foundation of DP’s branch in this district.
After the infamous protest that took place at DP’s headquarters in Tirana, on January 8, both Basha and Berisha have embarked on a campaign of town hall meetings across the country.
Basha: Berisha is doing the greatest service to PM Rama
During his speech, this Sunday afternoon, DP chair, Lulzim Basha, said that Albania isn’t a poor nation, but rather, a nation that has been robbed. The most significant steps we’ve taken as a nation since the 90s, according to him, were taken by the Democratic Party – referring here to Albania’s membership in NATO and visa liberalization.
In regards to Berisha, Basha said that Democrats have sacrificed many of their self-interests and that the former PM is instead doing a great service to Rama, by allowing for this internal rift amongst Democrats.
Berisha: Rama is holding Basha hostage through corruption
In his speech, Berisha said that Rama has installed a narco-state, after arresting 34 thousand Albanians in 8 years for civil disputes – something, which according to Berisha, hasn’t happened anywhere else in the world. The former PM also added that the present government is killing the hope of the younger generations and urging their massive exodus to EU nations.
“We have a narco-prime minister that is mining our national interest and entering an alliance with Belgrade against Kosovo and against the Albanian nation,” – said Berisha, during his town hall meeting in Shkoder.
Berisha also added that Rama ‘took Lulzim Basha hostage through corruptive affairs and other methods’.
