Kosovo runoff election results: LDK and PDK win 5 municipalities, VV secures 4 victories

Vetevendosje has secured only one out of Kosovo’s four main municipalities, namely Gjilan.

In the mayoral runoff, PDK and LDK won 5 municipalities each, while VV secured 4, and AAK 3.

Nisma, Serb List, and Turkish-minority party KDPT respectively one each.

LDK won: Prishtina, Istog, Vitia, Junik, and Fushe-Kosova.

PDK won: Prizren, Dragash, Vushtrri, Kacanik and Gllogovc.

Vetevendosja won: Gjilan, Podujeva, Kamenica, Shtime.

AAK won: Gjakova, Rahovec, Klina

21:19 LDK wins Prishtina, Arben Vitia admits defeat

The Democratic League of Kosovo landed a major victory after securing the mayor’s seat in the country’s capital for the next four years.

Around 51.07% of Prishtina’s citizens trusted LDK candidate Perparim Rama as their new mayor, as opposed to Vitia 48.93%.

Earlier on, Rama rushed to proclaim an early victory vowing to deliver on all promises made during the campaign.

21:09 Youngest VV candidate defeats LDK veteran in Gjilan

Vetevendosje overturned the results in Gjilan. Lutfi Haziri, the incumbent mayor, is due to step down and leave his seat to Alban Hyseni, VV’s youngest candidate.

With over 94% of ballots counted, Hyseni has secured the lead with 51.19% of the ballots, or around 1,000 votes less than Haziri.

21:05 Shaqir Totaj from PDK wins Prizren

After all ballots were counted, the Democratic Party of Kosovo came out as the winner in Prizren.

Totaj secured 51.01% of the votes in a tight race against Vetevendosje’s Mytaher Haskukaj.

20:52 AAK wins Gjakova, Ardian Gjini reinstated as mayor

The candidate of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo secured a mayoral term in Gjakova after a runoff against the candidate of Vetevendosje.

After votes were counted, Ardian Gjini won over 56.06% of the votes, over 43.94% that went for Mimoza Kusari-Lila.

With over 86% of votes processed in Prishtina, Perparim Rama from the Democratic Union of Kosovo (LDK) remains the main contender with 51.02% of the votes, while Arben Vitia from Vetevendosje has secured 48.98% of the votes so far.

As over 85% of the votes have been counted in Gjilan, VV candidate Alban Hyseni is now in the lead with 50.91% of the votes, meanwhile, Lutfi Haziri from LDK is around 900 votes behind.

19:00 All voting centers in Kosovo are now officially closed. Citizens from 21 municipalities head to the polls on Sunday to cast their ballot for their new mayors in the runoff elections.

Voter turnout has been recorded at around 38%.

Ballot stations were open from 7 AM to 7 PM.

The municipalities that had to face runoff were Prishtina, Gjakova, Gllogoc, Gjilan, Dragash, Istog, Kaçanik, Klina, Fushë Kosovë, Kamenicë, Obiliq, Rahovec, Podujevë, Prizren, Shtime, Viti, Vushtrri, Malishevë, Junik, Mamushë and Kllokot.

According to the Central Election Commission, over 1.26 million voters were eligible to cast ballots.

Prishtina recorded the highest turnout at 42.19%, as opposed to 31.37% in Prizren and 32.88% in Gjakova.
