Results of the Macedonian local elections aren’t in yet but the opposition parties led by VMRO-DPMNE claimed victory last night, even though official results have yet to be announced.
Macedonian citizens headed to the polls yesterday to elect the new mayors of the country’s 80 communes, as well as the mayor of Skopje, which is a separate municipal division. Citizens also cast their ballots for the new municipal councils.
Based on the computer-generated data processed so far, the National Elections Commission has declared the victory of opposition parties but they have yet to announce an official result.
In addition, representatives of LSDM have said that the battle is still underway, bringing to the attention the second round of voting.
Albanian parties have also given their separate statements regarding the electoral process. BDI leader, Ali Ahmeti has claimed victory in three communes so far.
