The mayors of the northern municipalities of Kosovo, North Mitrovica, Zvecan, Leposaviq, and Zubin Potok, declared their resignations before their respective assemblies this Sunday.

The councilors in the municipal assemblies from the ranks of the Serbian List acted the same way. The Serbian List is the largest party of ethnic Serbs in Kosovo, which has the full support of Belgrade.

The day before, on November 5, this party announced the withdrawal of Serbs from the state institutions of Kosovo.

The warnings of the Serbian List that they were going to leave the government institutions of Kosovo came after the decision of Kosovo authorities to suspend the director of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Nenad Gjuric, who has refused to implement the decision of the Government of Kosovo on the re-registration of cars that still have license plates issued by Serbia instead of RKS – the Republic of Kosovo.

Goran Rakic, the chairman of the Serbian List, said on November 5 that the decision to leave the institutions will be implemented up until when the Government of Kosovo withdraws its decision to re-register cars and respects the Brussels agreements.
