Even though the electoral campaign has not kicked off officially, Prime Minister Edi Rama has intensified his attack against the opposition, including here on President Ilir Meta and former premier Sali Berisha.

Analyst Baton Haxhiu said that the chief of the executive is attacking these two characters because the citizens want them removed from the political scene.

On tonight’s Shock on Euronews Albania, Haxhiu said that Rama’s political strategy is grounded on the following two reasons:

“Meta and Berisha are a part of the Albanian political scene and have reached their culminant point. The Albanian electorate no longer wants them to be a part of the political scene. Rama is attacking them for two reasons: Meta can mobilize the Socialists to go to the elections. Secondly, Berisha can mobilize the undecided voters which in turn will go and vote for the Socialists. Both two are necessary enemies for Rama at the moment. Basha does not inspire a lot in the battle and by making Berisha and Meta a party he is attracting undecided voters to himself”, explained Haxhiu.

According to analyst Andi Bushati, prime minister Edi Rama has taken an aim against former premier Sali Berisha and president Ilir Meta in order to leave “in the dark” the leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha.

Moreover, Bushati claims that apart from that, Rama’s objective is to “hide the failures of 8 years of his governance”.

“The aim is to put Basha on the side, but he has other objectives, too. Because he’s coming after eight years of governance and you need to have made an assessment: Why didn’t accession talks begin? Why there is no free healthcare? So the easiest thing is to deal with Berisha”, Bushati said.

“Thirdly, Rama is doing this to attract attention away from the real problems. These are old methods and no one falls for them. He has nothing to say in these elections because he’s coming forward with a catastrophic balance”, concluded Bushati.
