“Let’s make Albania like the rest of Europe. Let’s put it back on track, on the true tracks of democracy and freedom, and let’s guarantee a European future for our country”.
This is what president Ilir Meta declared after paying homage at the memorial of Azem Hajdari, located at the ‘Student City’ on December 8 – the National Youth Day.
“I am here to honor the student movement, especially the hero of democracy, Azem Hajdari, who played a key, volcanic role during those critical moments for Albania and all the students that gave their lives in the name of freedom,” – said the head of state.
The president was also asked about the two different camps that have been created within DP. “I am not here to comment on these types of things,” – said Meta.
Today is Albania’s National Youth Day. This date was proclaimed a national festivity, in honor of all the students and young generations of December 1990, who were part of bringing democracy to Albania.
On December 8, 1990, a group of students and professors of the University of Tirana, became the initiators and protagonists of the great historical turn, through peaceful protests that brought about the fall of the communist regime and the birth of democracy and pluralism in our country.
