Albanian President Ilir Meta said he sought information from the State Election Commissioner over municipalities left without a mayor, in order to fill in the vacant posts through an electoral race.
Meta said that it is “unacceptable” to have municipalities without an executive authority.
In a press conference, the Albanian head of state said that some Constitutional Court judges have committed “grave professional and ethical violations” while reviewing a request made by the association of municipalities on the 2019 local elections.
According to him, the court showed no will in resolving the issue in a constitutional order but left it to political jurisdiction.
“I’ve noted that several members of the Constitutional Court committed grave professional and ethical violations that run counter to the law and legitimize the need to roll out disciplinary measures against them”, said the president.
