The US Embassy to Albania has commented on the court’s final decision to acquit Meta in his impeachment trial.
The Constitutional Court demonstrated its ability to serve its primary and essential function by issuing rulings that reflect independence and integrity, stated the embassy.
Last night, the Constitutional Court decided to overturn the Parliament’s decision to impeach president Meta.
According to the Constitutional, the evidence provided by Parliament against Meta was insufficient and couldn’t prove that the president had severely breached the Constitution.
“️The Constitutional Court of Albania, which achieved functionality in December 2020, is demonstrating its ability to serve its primary and essential function by reviewing the facts and arguments presented by relevant parties, deliberating on these facts and arguments as they relate to the Constitution, and rendering judgments that reflect independence and integrity,” – stated the U.S. embassy through a public post on their Facebook page.
In addition, the embassy reiterated their support for the implementation of the justice reform, “including a professional, independent judiciary as a core institution for the guarantee of the rule of law as well as the separation and balancing of powers”.
