The Albanian Minister of State for the Diaspora, Pandeli Majko, spoke with Euronews Albania over an image posted on Instagram by Serbian President Alexandar Vucic depicting the map of Kosovo painted with the colors of the Serbian flag.
Majko described the gesture as a “high-level provocation”, adding that Vucic is trying to boost his image within the domestic realm.
“I think that since it was posted on the social media of a president of a country, it is a provocation of high levels. It is without a doubt an irresponsible act. I think that he is trying to boost his image within the domestic public opinion because it is out of discussion that the credibility of Serbia in the international relations is only played out with these tools”, said Majko during his interview.
On Thursday evening, Serbian President Alexandar Vucic posted a photo on his official account depicting the map of the territory of Kosovo painted by the colors of the Serbian flag, a gesture that has stirred a wide backlash on social media.
The photo was captioned “Serbia today is not weak, does not threaten, but does not forget either, and it won’t allow March 17 to happen again”.
The post caused a huge public spat, including an initiative calling on Instagram to remove the image from the president’s account.
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Pristina has reacted by declaring that “mutual recognition between the two states is inevitable”.
