Foreign Minister Olta Xhacka declared from the podium of the Assembly that her husband is not a beneficiary of strategic investments in the country’s south.

During her address in Parliament on Thursday, Xhacka responding to allegations from Democrat MP Agron Shehaj ruled out any possible conflict of interests as her husband has ‘not received a cent from public funds’.

“My husband is a businessman since 1991. My husband, just like you Mr. Shehaj, started off as an immigrant in Italy and then returned to Albania. After 30 years in business, he got involved in a serious investment in the south to develop a 5-star hotel”.

“This is a private investment, in a private territory by a private investor”, said the foreign minister.

She also ruled out that the hotel will be developed in a public property area.

The Council for Regulation and Immunity will convene Friday to assess the request made by Democrat MPs in lifting Xhacka’s diplomatic immunity, in the wake of allegations linking her husband Artan Gaci to a multi-million-dollar project in the south.
