Albania and Montenegro have agreed to build a bridge over the Buna River. It will be a close connection point with Velipoja here, and Ulcinj in Montenegro.
The 310-meter-long bridge will shorten the distance to the two tourist centers from 67 which is today to about 20 km. The project presented by prime ministers Rama and Abazovic, in Ohrid last year, is expected to be built in August 2024.
According to the project, it will have two lanes less than four meters wide and will include sidewalks and bike lanes.
Its height will be 10 meters, to guarantee the normal flow of the river. In a wider context, the bridge will not only serve the residents near it, but will open the tourist markets from Albania, Greece, Kosovo and beyond.
In the future, it may also become part of the blue corridor. The government of Montenegro has allocated 3.5 million euros in this year’s budget for this project, while its total cost may reach around 10 million euros and will be financed on a 50-50 basis by both governments.
