This Sunday at midnight, North Macedonia’s Parliament has adopted the new cabinet of ministers for the country’s new Social-Democratic government, led by Dimitar Kovacevski.
The new government cabinet was adopted by the Macedonian Parliament which seats 120 MPs, who voted 62 in favor to 46 against.
Meanwhile, the new prime minister, Dimitar Kovacevski said that the priorities of his administration will revolve around overcoming the economic and energetic crisis while fighting the spread of the coronavirus.
Other matters that will hold significance for the new administration include the country’s European integration and resolving the ongoing disputes with Bulgaria, which is contesting North Macedonia’s rights to its language and history.
Sofia has made use of its veto and is blocking the process of negotiations for Skopje’s accession into the EU. Bulgaria claims that North Macedonia’s language and nation only existed since 1945 and it is inviting Macedonian authorities to accept their Bulgarian roots.
Meanwhile, Bulgarian PM Kiril Petkov is set to travel to Skopje this Tuesday. Petkov has thus far negated the existence of an ethnic-Macedonian minority living in Bulgaria.
On the other hand, North Macedonia has asked to dedicate a unique space in the Macedonian Constitution for the ethnic-Bulgarian minority living in their soil.
The new Macedonian cabinet will be made up of 21 members. The Social-Democratic Association and its smaller allies will have 12 ministries; the Democratic Alliance for Integration will have 6, and Alternative will have 3 ministries.
Out of the total 21 ministers in the new cabinet, 10 are of Albanian descent.
