Epidemiologist Dr. Ilir Alimehmeti said on Good Morning that COVID-19 measures are “no longer necessary”.

Dr. Alimehmeti maintained that measures were mainly important at the beginning of the pandemic, in order to avoid skyrocketing hospitalization figures.

“We’re absolutely not there at this moment. On one side, Omicron has come in a milder form. A part of the population already had COVID, while others are vaccinated. Hospitals have relatively fewer cases and new infections are dropping”, he said.

According to the epidemiologist, measures were taken to avoid overburdening the health system in the first place and had nothing to do with infections.

“There is no logic in having COVID-19 measures”, added Dr. Alimehmeti.

He also recommended focusing on treating COVID-19 for the moment, rather than vaccinations.

279 citizens tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, while the official death count reached 3,453.

But the epidemiological situation has improved significantly from last month, with active cases falling below 4,000.

ER chief Dr. Skender Brataj, a member of the Technical Committee of Experts, announced on ‘Good Morning” that all measures will be lifted in March.
