Head of Albania’s Public Health Institute, Eugena Tomini, said that there are currently no suspected cases of monkeypox in our country.
During her interview for Euronews Albania’s ‘Today’, Tomini said that ISHP’s virologic reference lab is part of the European Labs Network.
According to her, the samples for every suspicious case are sent directly to 2 labs in the Netherlands or one in Germany.
“No suspicious cases of monkeypox have been found in Albania. ISHP and its virologic reference lab is part of the European Lab Network. At the moment, we are able to send all samples of suspected cases in 3 European laboratories, 2 in the Netherlands and one in Germany,” – said Tomini.
In addition, the health specialist said that monkeypox exhibits a characteristic that includes the flare-up of pimples or sores all at once, 1-3 days after the patient experiences a high fever.
Yesterday, the Committee of Immunization Experts recommended that the smallpox vaccine should be taken by all those who came into close contact with someone suffering from monkeypox as well as health professionals.
