The Democratic Party began Tuesday consultations on the territorial reform.

In a meeting with experts, the leader of the Democrats Lulzim Basha weighed in on the necessity for a new territorial division.

“We’re not in favor of going back to the previous system. We believe that it was severely fragmentized. It was our political will that made the creation of this commission possible. I know that the work ahead for this commission won’t be easy, but on the contrary, we will have antagonistic views with each other. But time has been on our side. Time showed that 2015 was the beginning of a catastrophe for citizens”, Basha said.

The Democratic Party will begin a tour around 12 counties to consult with citizens. A few days ago, the Democratic Party set up a working group led by Roland Bejko.

In the upcoming plenary session, MPs are set to vote on the members of the special parliamentary committee tasked to work on territorial reform.

The last administrative reform occurred in 2015. At the time, the Democratic Party boycotted the commission headed by late Socialist MP Bashkim Fino.
