The number of applications for asylum from Albanians is increasing, even in some cases going past the number of citizens fleeing Ukraine.
Eurostat data show that in August asylum applications from Albanians were almost 1100, while from Ukraine in July there were 950.
Moreover, Ukraine has a population of 43 million.
According to Eurostat’s preliminary data for the period January-August 2022, a total of 6,860 asylum applications were registered in the EU by Albanian citizens, with an increase of 68% compared to the same period last year.
The main destinations where Albanians seek asylum are France, with 46% of applications and Germany, with 12%.
