The Albanian Public Health Institute will be sending samples of patients suspected of having contracted the new COVID-19 variant to a specialized lab for further testing, in order to see if Omicron will be detected in our country as well.
Minister of health, Ogerta Manaistirliu called on citizens to continue with the vaccination process, adding that a group of experts is currently evaluating the set of measures put in place to avoid the spread of COVID-19, and will ultimately decide whether more need to be added, like mandating masks in indoor spaced, etc.
“It is crucial that we continue with the vaccination process, even in relation to the new variant – Omicron – which has been tantalizing the entire world. This isn’t meant to put countries in a state of panic but rather to make them ready and well-prepared,” – said minister Manastirliu.
Since the beginning of the vaccination program in Albania, a total of 2.103.351 doses have been administered. Of them, 1.072.645 are first doses; 961.013 are second doses and 67.381 are third booster shots.
