Democratic MPs from the temporary Commission of Refoundation have gathered at the DP’s headquarters in Tirana.
However, they weren’t able to get inside the premises as all doors were closed.
“A group of MPs and members of DP’s parliamentary group came to DP’s headquarters today, in our home, to hold a meeting and discuss the future of our parliamentary group in 2022,” – said Democratic MP, Flamur Noka.
Noka continued his declaration for the press from DP’s front yard, by saying that the party’s headquarters have been transformed into a ‘high security prison’ adding that on January 8, Democrats will gather in protest in order to once again turn the Democratic Party into the ‘home of freedom’.
Meanwhile, DP’s chair, Lulzim Basha, arrived at DP’s central headquarters this morning at 10:00 a.m. The party’s Secretary General, Gazmend Bardhi, deputy chairs, and other Democratic leaders have also joined him.
Basha and Bardhi were the only ones who accessed the main building through the front door, while others went in through a secondary entrance that is usually used by journalists and other staff.
The building’s windows have been covered with DP’s logo, whereas Democratic officials have declared that these changes to the building’s outer façade are only a result of an overall reorganization of the party’s internal structures, which will include the addition of more office spaces and secretariates.
DP’s former chair, Sali Berisha, has accused Basha of ‘armoring’ the party and turning it into a personal bunker.
