During a visit to Peja, Kosovo’s president Vjosa Osmani declared that there hasn’t been a rise in inter-ethnic crimes or incidents in Kosovo.
These comments were made during a meeting with the mayor of Peja, Gazmend Muhaxheri.
Osmani stated that after yesterday’s statements made by the head of EU’s Office in Kosovo, Tomas Szunyog, that after the pandemic, in parts of Vushtria, there’s been an increase in the number of inter-ethnic incidents, she asked law enforcement authorities for details regarding the matter, and concluded that this wasn’t in fact the case.
Osmani told Kosova Press that “no one should rush to draw such conclusions or make statements that haven’t been confirmed by law enforcement and national security institutions because they risk damaging the national image”.
“It is important that no one rushes to draw conclusions that haven’t been confirmed by our national security institutions because this not only damages the image of our nation but it also hurts our efforts to build a Kosovo where every citizen feels equal, safe, and whose rights are met, just like our Constitution prescribes,” – said president Osmani.
On the other hand, ambassador Szunyog took to Twitter yesterday to warn that since the beginning of the pandemic, there’s been a definite increase in the number of inter-ethnic incidents in Vushtrri.
