Education expert Ndricim Mehmeti, argued that Albanian high school graduates resort to studying abroad, due to the lack of a safe job market at home.
In an interview for Euronews Albania, Mehmeti said that we must focus on building an inherently better education system – one that is based on meritocracy.
“We don’t have a secure job market; you know this all too well; our job market isn’t safe. Students find themselves unable to compete in the labor market. It seems as if the cost of living isn’t even taken into account. And our students aren’t stupid, they’re much smarter than us. First of all, this country must become livable.
Secondly, we must reinstate meritocracy, and thirdly, everyone must get what they deserve, and everyone deserves a worthwhile education,” said Mehmeti.
In the first round of university enrollment, 21 000 high school graduates applied, of whom 5.950 were denied entry into all available study programs.
