20 hours and a myriad of personal attacks later, the Albanian Parliament voted 77-53 for the new Cabinet and government program, hence officially mandating Rama’s third-term Socialist-led government.

During the plenum, DP chair, Lulzim Basha stated that the country’s democracy “has been executed by attacking its most important instrument, being its free and honest elections”.

In addition, he accused the Rama administration of being directly responsible for this, before comparing the current state of the country to Syria, in terms of the high number of Albanian asylum seekers trying to leave the country for a better life.

Basha also took a jab at the controversial ‘Open Balkan’ initiative.

He asked PM Rama to account for the actual circumstances that are compelling him to support an initiative of this kind, whose underground source according to Basha, is Novi Sad, Serbia.

However, the prime minister didn’t refrain himself from the usual mockeries, calling Basha’s rhetoric an exact copy-paste of his electoral speech, during the April 25th campaigns.

He chose to leave it at that, saying that he didn’t feel the need, at this particular moment, to give a clear answer to his political rival’s numerous questions and accusations.
