The Parliament of North Macedonia will convene today in order to assess the motion of no confidence against the present government, initiated by the Macedonian and Albanian opposition in the country.
VMRO-DPMNE, the coalition Alliance for Albanians and the Alternative, as well as the Besa Movement, say that they’ve secured 61 votes and out of the 120 MPs in the Parliament of North Macedonia.
The decision for the motion of no confidence came after Zaev withdrew from his preannounced resignation on October 31, after his party’s defeat in the local elections.
According to the Constitution, the vote of confidence in favor of the government should take place during the same day. If the opposition is able to secure 61 votes against the Zaev administration, then the government is forced to step down within 24 hours.
At this point, the president has 10 days to mandate the establishment a new government by parties that will confirm that they possess at least 61 MPs in the Macedonian Parliament.
On the other hand, if the opposition isn’t able to overthrow the government, in the next 90 days, they won’t be able to present a new motion of no confidence against the government, if at least 61 MPs don’t side with the initiative.
