The Albanian parliament will convene this Saturday at 6 PM to determine whether the Socialist presidential nominee, General Commander of the Albanian Armed Forces Bajram Begaj, will become Albania’s new president.
Begaj needs 71 votes to be elected the new head of state.
If he’s elected, General Commander Begaj will be Albania’s 7th president in 32 years of pluralism.
A senior military man serving for over 30 years in the Albanian Armed Forces, Begaj is currently the General Commander of the Albanian Armed Forces, a post he was appointed in 2020.
Begaj has also held other key military positions such as Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command, Chief of the Military Medical Unit, Director of the Health Inspectorate, Chief Inspector, and Advisor of the Health Inspectorate at the General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces.
