Denar Biba is the only candidate that is expected to substitute Juliana Latifi as head of the Albanian Competition Authority. He was able to get the majority of votes in a poll conducted at the Commission of Economy.

Various MPs have become part of a public debate regarding Biba’s previous work as well as his absence in the Commission.

The opposition and Socialist MP, Erjon Brace requested Biba’s attendance in a special session, but this request was overthrown and was directly referred to Parliament instead.

“This man is a political person and has given proof for this sat the Central Elections Commission,” – said Edmond Spaho, Democratic MP.

“After reading his CV, as far as I’m concerned, he lacks the expertise to run the office he’s been put in charge of,” – said Brace.

The Director of the Competition Authority is elected once every 5 years through a vote in Parliament. Denar Biba was proposed for this job by 28 MPs of the Albanian Parliament.

The Competition Authority is a government agency in Albania acting to ensure a free, effective and competitive market, pursuant to the Law “On Protection of Competition”.
