Long queues were formed on Tuesday at Tirana International Airport as passengers were obliged to do the rapid test in compliance with new travel rules imposed by Italy with only one-day ahead notice.
One of the passengers we spoke to expressed her fear that she might even lose the flight due to the delays and long line-ups.
“I am very concerned. My daughter is a permanent resident and she’s also vaccinated. Now we’re waiting for the test results, but we might lose our flight”, she said,
Apart from residents, there are other passengers traveling to Italy for various reasons, including work or study, however, all of them are required to show a negative COVID test.
Many citizens, holding a vaccine certificate, complain that the test is “unnecessary”, while others had only learned about the new travel rules while at the airport.
“I am vaccinated! I don’t even know where to do the test but apparently, it’s somewhere here at the airport”, said another passenger.
Flights to Italy take up the majority of Albanian air traffic, but apart from long line-ups, the new rules announced less than 24 hours ago caused major distress among passengers at the airport.
