Prime minister and Chair of the Socialist Party, Edi Rama, announced that he has decided to take the mandate he won, as a candidate, in the list of Durres County.

PM Rama ran as a candidate for both Vlora and Durres in the April 25th general elections, being ranked 8th in the lists of the Socialist Party in both counties.

Today, through a letter directed at the State Commissioner for the Elections, the leader of SP chose to take his mandate in the County of Durres, during the new parliament that is expected to constitute in September.

In the April 25th elections, SP won 8 mandates in Durres and 8 in Vlora as well. In terms of preferential votes, Rama received 15,871 votes in Durres and 11,412 in Vlora.

The Chair of SP has been a member of parliament for the County of Vlora, during his two terms in 2013-2017 and 2017-2021.

Through a statement, PM Rama links this decision to the development that needs to take place in Durres during SP’s third term.

“Vlora was, is and will forever be in my heart, therefore with or without a mandate, Vlora and I will never separate, not today, nor tomorrow. Meanwhile, in my mind, Durres is the place, where the Third Mandate should bring about a new boom, not only for the city but for everyone,” wrote Rama on his Twitter account.
