PM Edi Rama made a post on his official Facebook page, where he took pride in the fact that during 2021, there was a total of 43.581 births.
Referring to data regarding what’s known as the ‘baby bonus’ package, the head of state said that since January 2019, there was a total of 115,764 newborns, whose families were able to benefit from this scheme.
However, despite this government initiative, the birth rate in our country has been going down. According to official data published by INSTAT, during 2020, there was a total of 28.075 births.
In the first trimester for 2021, another 6.006 babies were born, followed by 5.993 in the second trimester and 7.404 in the third. In total, there were 19.403 new births in 2021. Data on the fourth trimester is still pending but will be published soon on the official page of INSTAT.
The law on the ‘baby bonus’ package grants Albanian parents both in the country and abroad, which is why the numbers published by the prime minister don’t correspond with the number of births in our country over this period.
The baby bonus offers 40 000 ALL (around 350 euros) to families for their first newborn, 80 000 ALL for their second child, and 120 000 for their third child.
