The police operation in 21 locations in Mitrovica has concluded, resulting in the arrest of 16 individuals. The news was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Basic Prosecution of Mitrovica, Valon Preteni, who stated that 13 of those arrested have been placed in detention by the prosecutor’s decision.
The Kosovo Police carried out the operation in both the southern and northern parts of Mitrovica, aiming to combat criminal activities, including the smuggling of weapons and ammunition.
Kosovo Police spokesperson Baki Kelani stated that the operation began in the early morning hours and covered two regions of Kosovo.
Official Statement from Kosovo Police and the Mitrovica Prosecution
The Kosovo Police, specifically the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Serious Crimes, in coordination with the Basic Prosecution of Mitrovica, supported by relevant police units and the Kosovo Police Inspectorate, executed a court order from the Basic Court of Mitrovica on March 19, 2025, after several months of investigations.
The operation targeted 21 locations across South Mitrovica, North Mitrovica, Vushtrri, Skenderaj, and Leposaviq.
As a result of this operation, 16 individuals were detained on suspicion of committing criminal offenses related to “coercion” and “unauthorized import, export, supply, transport, production, trade, mediation, or sale of weapons or explosive materials”.
Seized Evidence
During the operation, the following items were confiscated as material evidence:
- 9 firearms
- 200 rounds of ammunition
- Various types of ammunition
- 15 mobile phones
- 2 pairs of handcuffs
- A knife
- Gun barrels
- Gun holsters
- 1 DVR
Following interrogations, the prosecutor has ordered 13 individuals to be held in 48-hour detention.
