President Ilir Meta has signed the protocol for Finland’s and Sweden’s membership into NATO.
“The integration of both of these ally states in NATO is definitely a historical development and a great strategic change that is supported by Albania in every step of the way. We are certain that their membership will contribute to strengthening our joint cooperation in this alliance,’ stated the presidential decree that has now been adopted by NATO.
4 days ago, protocols for the integration of these 2 nations into NATO were also adopted by the Albanian Parliament.
Albania became the second NATO member state to approve the enlargement of the North Atlantic Alliance with the 2 Scandinavian states.
Finland and Sweden, which had until now held a more neutral stance towards military involvement, signed their integration protocol on July 5.
The protocol will now have to be approved by the parliaments of 30 NATO member states before both countries can formally join.
