Serbia’s illegal structures have influenced the electoral race in municipalities inhabited by ethnic Serbs in Kosovo.

These were the words of President Vjosa Osmani during a meeting with a delegation of the EU’s Election Observation Mission.

Osmani added that this undermined the fair race between political subjects as well as the free will of the voters.

“According to information provided by our institutions, the race in the municipalities inhabited by Serbs has been influenced by impositions of Serbia’s illegal structures, who have undermined the race and the free will of the voters”, declared President Osmani.

Serb List in Kosovo, which maintains close ties with government structures in Serbia, won in Leposavic, north Mitrovica, Novoberda, Shterpca, Zubin Potok, Zvecan, Gracanica, Ranilug, and Partes, coming off as the party that has won the most municipalities in the local polls held on Sunday.

On the other hand, according to an official announcement released by the President’s office, the EU’s delegation commended the election process as “democratic” and “characterized by professionalism and high institutional integrity”.

According to preliminary results, seventeen municipalities elected their new mayors in the first round, while another twenty-one will go into a runoff.

The ruling party, Levizja Vetevendose, was not able to secure enough votes to get any of its candidates elected and will face a runoff in 12 municipalities.
