The deputy minister of finances Besart Kadia, and Democrat MP Arbi Agalliu presented their view on the price crisis in Albania during the weekly show RinOn.
Deputy finance minister Kadia said that inflation in Albania is low, compared to other countries in the region, adding that local products have cushioned rising prices.
Asked about his opinion about the decision of the government in North Macedonia to freeze the price of the products of the market basket, Kadia said that it is not a solution.
“Who will pay for it? If a product costs 2 cents, the state says don’t raise the price and this means that the business will not make any profit, or even lose. That will only shift the problem, but it won’t solve it”, he said.
Democrat MP Agalliu said that the international market reflected higher prices after opening up the market and a rise in demand. According to him, the government must intervene to help both consumers and businesses.
Instead, the government is not easing the burden at all, claimed the Democrat MP, pointing as an example the implementation of VAT on agriculture and levy on gas.
“Practices from other countries don’t recommend increasing fiscal liabilities in times of crisis, especially for those products that pressure growth in international markets”, concluded Agalliu.
