The massive demonstration that was planned to take place this Monday to protest against Open Balkan, Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic’s visit to Tirana and the general discontent with the government’s performance thus far, has just begun in the capital city.

This protest was called by former PM Sali Berisha and DP’s camp which has openly come out against DP’s current chair, Lulzim Basha and who have joined Berisha in his efforts to oust him and continue the party’s mission in the opposition.

Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic is expected to land in Tirana this Monday evening, at the same time that former PM, Sali Berisha has called a protest against the Open Balkan initiative.

This is why the government has enforced several security measures starting from the installment of security cameras, which have been painted over to prevent possible damages.

Euronews Albania journalist, Eni Ferhati reported from the prime minister’s office, saying that the structure has been enclosed by a metallic fence.

Around 1.000 police officers are expected to be on the ground and mobilized during the entire course of the rally, which according to Berisha, won’t only protest against the Open Balkan initiative but also against the ‘current government’s continuous theft of Albanian citizens’.

According to police reports, Vucic will be landing at Rinas Airport at around 16:00 CET, and in order to avoid any possible incidents, his escort team will put in place strict security measures.
