PM Edi Rama declared in today’s ‘Open Balkan’ roundtable that this initiative is getting the Balkans ready for its journey to the European Union.

The Head of State underlined that the agreements that will be signed today will be influencing an immensely important step towards an objective that aims to guarantee the complete freedom of movement for citizens, goods, capital and services.

“Let me go through each pillar of the Open Balkan initiative, by reiterating the call for everyone to become part of the Open Balkan. It is a completely inclusive initiative and one that encourages everyone in the region to be a part of this endeavor because in the meantime, we are walking forward,” – said Rama.

In addition, he explained that in the field of free movement for goods, the three Balkan leaders will be signing a threefold agreement for the facilitation of imports-exports of live animals, which will include an agreement for veterinarians, he added.

In regards to the issue of free movement, Rama said that another threefold agreement that will be signed today, involves lifting all requirements for a job permit.

“In the field of free movement and services, we have taken another step forward by improving interconnectivity and electronic services. We have to collaborate in the tourism sector. We are constantly trying to attract new investors to the region,” – said the Albanian prime minister.

In addition, Rama said that by next year, there will be no more ‘unnecessary headaches and stress when waiting to cross the border’.
