PM Edi Rama presented the German chancellor Angela Merkel with the medal of honor titled the ‘Great Star of Gratitude for Public Achievements’.
The moment Rama decided to award this medal to Merkel was captured and shared on the prime minister’s personal Facebook account.
“This is the Star of Gratitude, and this symbol is our National Hero, Skanderbeg, who protected Albania from invasion; and he was also claimed to be the Athlete of Christ, for protecting Christianity, that’s why I think we owe it to you and I’m not going to make a speech because I know you hate it [ceremonies], so let’s just have a picture and that’s it, “ said Rama to Merkel, who was taken by surprise.
Chancellor Merkel called this medal a great honor and proceeding to tell the Albanian prime minister that collaborating with him was “a good idea”.
“Thank you very much. I know it’s a great honor and it was a good issue for me to work together with you,” said the German chancellor.
