Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed disappointment in the bloc’s recent refusal to open accession talks with Albania and North Macedonia.
In an interview for ‘Corriere della Sera’, Rama said ‘it’s a bad day for the bloc’, as Bulgaria continues to use its veto power ‘to keep hostage’ not only Skopje but Tirana too.
The head of the Albanian government was asked whether Putin is glad to see this deadlock.
“Putin might not be in good health, but the European Union isn’t in any better condition”, Rama said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Albanians will continue to be pro-European integration, adding that he can’t predict when the country will become a member.
On Thursday, a high-level meeting between the Western Balkan and EU leaders took place in Brussels.
Bulgaria kept its veto on North Macedonia, consequently blocking Albania’s bid too.
