Prime Minister Edi Rama has responded to the teachers who are protesting today for a salary increase.
During his speech at the Agricultural University of Tirana, Rama said that there will be a 7% salary increase, but the rest will be left to the decisions of the universities.
The head of government emphasized that there will be no total equality in the academic field.
“We will make a salary increase on Wednesday, when the government is meeting, for 7%; but we will recognize the university’s right to increase the salary of the lecturers according to its own decision. The university is autonomous. In the university, not everyone can be the same”, said Rama.
As they had warned, earlier today the lecturers held a protest in Tirana, where they demanded the fulfillment of several conditions in their universities.
They warned that on October 17 they will not enter the auditoriums to start the new school year, if their conditions aren’t met.
