During his speech at the “Berlin Process” Summit, Prime Minister Edi Rama didn’t fail to mention the recent accusations of British Home Secretary Suella Braveman, who by directly accusing Albanians, raised the alarm about their emigration to the United Kingdom.
Rama clarified that Albanians are fully integrated into Great Britain and that some of them run businesses.
Excerpt from Prime Minister Edi Rama’s speech:
“I did not hear any German politician speak or say that Albanians are criminals and are bringing over criminals to Europe, but rather I saw a government quite interested in addressing the issue of emigration for Albanians and moving concretely by placing Albania in the category of safe countries of origin, strengthening the system of applications and practically putting an end to that troubled moment in the most respectable manner.
British representatives will come to Germany and quickly learn and fix their own problems. I must remind you here that our citizens who have arrived in France have been completely legal. If there is a problem in the channel between France and the Kingdom let them solve it. We are ready to cooperate, but we will not accept this kind of rhetoric.
Albanians in Great Britain are fully integrated and represent an excellent community. It’s not a million, it’s 140 thousand. 70% of them left Greece and Italy. There are 1200 business leaders who are Albanians, there are academics. When it comes to criminals the numbers speak for less than 1%. Talking about gangsters doesn’t sound very British, but more like shouting in a madhouse.
