Prime Minister Edi Rama attended a meeting with employees of the Tirana Municipality this Thursday.

At the beginning of the meeting, footage showcasing the transformation of the capital over the years was displayed to the employees. Referring to the images, Rama stated that just as Tirana has changed under his governance, so has the justice system. He added that he shares the stance of those who protested in front of SPAK but emphasized that such behavior should not be repeated, as, in his view, justice “cannot be infallible.”

“Dear employees of the Tirana Municipality, I called this meeting because, over these past days, I have seen among you and many others people who are affected, disappointed, and distressed. Some of you even went to the special prosecution office to protest on the day the mayor was imprisoned without trial. That was a mistake that should not be repeated.

Each of you represents a large team, an autonomous power, and under no circumstances should you appear before another power. I do not think very differently from those who went there. The Mayor of Tirana is currently in prison with the status of a suspect and not yet as an accused or convicted person.

We transformed Tirana from a living hell into a European city with great courage and effort, just as we have decided to transform the justice system in Albania. Just as we demolished structures in Tirana, we have dismantled the old architecture of justice through judicial reform, and with the vetting process, we have cleansed a significant part of the decayed justice system inherited from those who also left us the Tirana of 25 years ago,” Rama stated.
