Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has called Prime Minister Edi Rama’s accusations against the British government regarding Albanian immigrants irresponsible.
In the weekly conference with journalists, Berisha listed the reasons why Albanians are fleeing and depopulating the country.
“In the UK, in the media, parliament, and government, there is serious concern about the unprecedented influx of refugees crossing the Channel in hopes of a better life. Over the course of a year, this influx has reached 12,000, from 800 in 2021. Undoubtedly, this is a seriously worrying situation, and the controversy is understandable and inevitable.
Disagreeing with any labeling of Albanian refugees by the media and politicians, DP thanks King Charles for his intervention, DP rejects and describes as irresponsible the statement of Edi Rama, in which he blamed the British authorities for the situation, by mainly pointing the finger at the British conservatives”, said Berisha.
According to DP’s chair, the main cause of Albania’s depopulation is government corruption and the lack of free elections.
