Albanian citizens don’t think that Islam is a contributing factor to their lack of EU integration thus far.
Around 4 in every 5 Albanians (77%) believe that the European Union isn’t influenced by the fact that the majority of the Albanian population identifies as Muslim.
At the present moment, the EU hasn’t accepted any Muslim-majority state into the block. This is an argument made often by the Turkish president, Reyep Tajip Erdogan, as a pretense for EU’s refusal to accept Turkey into the block.
The prolongation of the accession process by 22 years, since 1999, when Turkey was first granted their candidate status, has incited many to accuse the EU of religious-based prejudice.
Data were recorded during a poll led by MRB and Data Centrum from October 20-29, 2021 that included 1.000 face-to-face interviews conducted at a national level.
