On February 7, 2020, singer Nexhmije Pagarusha passed away.
She is known as one of the Albanian singers with the most unique and powerful voice. A source of inspiration for many generations after her, Nexhmije Pagarusha was born on May 7, 1933, in the village of Pagarusha near Malishevo.
“The Queen of Albanian Music” gained fame in Albania and neighboring countries, thanks to her unique soprano vocal. Pagarusha attended music school in Belgrade and began her singing career in 1948, on the waves of Radio Prishtina. She practiced the art of singing for four decades in various genres: folk, classical music, as well as performing in operas.
The song that enjoys the most popularity in her repertoire is “Baresha”, which has been awarded numerous prizes.
Pagarusha’s last concert was held in 1984, in Sarajevo.
