The Democratic Party and the Freedom Party learned yesterday the names of the 48 candidates who will represent the opposition coalition against the socialist majority in the May 14 local elections.
From the first round of the primary process, only 8 municipalities did not reveal the names of the candidates and will go to a runoff.
In Tirana, Fier, Librazhd, Diber, Sarande, Mirdita, Mat and Kruje, the democrats will turn to the ballot boxes again to choose the candidate who will compete on May 14.
On December 11, the date of the run-off for these 8 municipalities has been determined.
The primaries process took place throughout the country, with the exception of 5 municipalities, Himarë, Finiq, Dropull, and Pustec, which were left to the allied parties and Malsi e Madhe, in which, due to the internal situation in the branch, it was decided that the election of to the candidate in a second moment.
Along with the 4 municipalities that were not voted for, the DP has given up on 4 other municipalities, leaving the candidates from the Freedom Party in Kucova, Prrenjas, Memaliaj and Skrapar.
Apart from them, the primaries were formal in 9 municipalities, where there was only one candidate in the race.
In many municipalities, the primaries process was accompanied by disputes and debates due to problems with the lists. In some municipalities, such as Kamez, Tropoja or Korca, some of the candidates in the race withdrew from the race, denouncing the irregularities of the process.
