The abandonment of some museum buildings in Gjirokastër is causing damage to their architectural and construction values.

“The Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage Gjirokastër has carried out permanent inspections in all the objects that it has under its administration or is in the process of carrying out inspections to identify the problems in order not to reach the point of collapse.

But it is necessary to cooperate with the owner because at the end of the day it is his property, it is private property”, says Ardis Duk, Cultural Heritage Officer in Gjirokastër. For this year, the Ministry of Culture has opened the revitalization bonus, giving the owners of cultural monuments the opportunity to benefit from funding for the restoration of museum buildings.

“Here it is necessary to cooperate with the owner or possessor of the property because one of its components is the part of co-financing, if the state subsidizes a part, the other part must be decided by the possessor or owner of the property”, stressed Duka. In the city of Gjirokastra, investments are being made for the restoration and revitalization of cultural heritage values, where the investments of the residents themselves and local businesses play an important role.
